In order to enhance our skin care results, exfoliating should be a vital part to everyone’s homecare regimes. Exfoliation will leave your skin looking brighter and improve the effectiveness of topical skin care products by enhancing absorption. Our epidermal turnover happens approximately every four to six weeks of which that slows down by 30-50% as we mature. Therefore, integrating resurfacing treatments and products is ultimately going to enable yourself and patients to gain the best results.

Topicals assisting with epidermal renewal

Alpha hydroxy acids

Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane, it is the simplest in structure and has the smallest molecular structure of all the alpha hydroxy acids therefore is great for penetration. Key benefits include anti-ageing properties, effectiveness in treating acne and its ability to exfoliate the skin while maintaining a natural pH balance. Lactic acid is a water-soluble acid which helps keep the skin natural moisture factor. It is best for stimulating collagen renewal, fades superficial hyperpigmentation and smooths fine lines and wrinkles. Lactic acid is also more appropriate for sensitive skin.

Beta hydroxy acids

Salicylic acid is an oil soluble acid which has great benefits for acniec skin due to its deep penetration into the hair follicle as it cleanses out excess oils and dead skin cells to unclog pores. It is also known for its anti-inflammatory properties.

Enzymes

Enzymes break down the keratin protein in the upper layer of the skin, which bonds dead skin cells together. Examples of enzymes within resurfacing products are Papaya and Pineapple enzymes. iS Clinical have used botanically derived active ingredients since the brand was founded in 2002, starting with the iconic Cleansing Complex and Active Serum, following through to today with the newly launched Active Peel System.
