Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane, it is the simplest in structure and has the smallest molecular structure of all the alpha hydroxy acids therefore is great for penetration. Beta hydroxy acids

Enzymes

Enzymes break down the keratin protein in the upper layer of the skin, which bonds dead skin cells together.
